Little is known of the land surrounding Sorbie tower prior to 1185, although the lands near Kirkdale House, where the lairds of the clan have resided since the 1700s, are home to two ancient stone cairns:

• Cairnholy I, a chambered cairn dating back to 3000-2000 BC, consisting of several uprights set in a semi-circle. StonePages.com has a great, interactive 360-degree view of it (may require you to install the Quicktime plugin)
  
  
• Cairnholy II is nearby, but is a simpler design.  It also dates to 3000-2000 BC.
