Conservation of the Tower
In 1965 Mrs. Jean Cummings gave the lands around Sorbie Tower
to The Clan Hannay Society with the stipulation that they be
held in trust for the people for evermore. Since then volunteers
have worked tirelessly to preserve and improve this ancient
site.
What this means is as a member of the Clan Hannay Society,
you are actually a joint owner of this very important part of
our family history.
So far well over 40,000 Pounds Sterling has been raised and
spent securing the tower and grounds for future generations to
enjoy. It is a site maintained for the people and free to
everyone, local and tourist alike.
New
Maintenance Hut
The site includes a utility shed which serves as storage for
maintenance equipment as well as a refreshment stand during
gatherings. The Society's original shed was purchased
second hand during the 1975 restoration project. In 2000,
however, the venerable yet rotting shell was replaced with a new
design-built multi-purpose unit with water, heat and light. Many
thanks are due to our anonymous donor who provided the £10,000
required to clear away the old and construct the new. Lying at
an angle of ninety degrees to the old shed, it has improved the
view to the Tower as you walk up the drive.
