Following are directions for getting to Newton Stewart from major gateways Glasgow, Edinburgh and Belfast. NOTE that timetables are accurate as of May 25, 2003, and are subject to change. Always check with rail and bus services before booking travel.
 
Glasgow
  From Glasgow to Newton Stewart
 
  1. Take Scotrail train from Glasgow Central to Stranraer.
    (Approx. two and a half hours; click for timetable [PDF reader needed]).

  2. Disembark train at Stranraer and switch to Bus Route 430 from the Port Rodie stop in Stranraer  to Dash Square in Newton Stewart
    (Approx 50 minutes; click for timetable)

  To Glasgow from Newton Stewart
 
  1. Take Bus Route 430 from Dash Square in Newton Stewart to Port Rodie stop in Stranraer
    (Approx 50 minutes; click for timetable)

  2. Disembark bus at Port Rodie stop in Stranraer and board Scotrail train from Stranraer to Glasgow Central.

Edinburgh
  From Edinburgh to Newton Stewart
 
  1. Take Bus Route 100 from Edinburgh Waterloo Place to Dumfries Whitesands

  2. Take Bus Route 500 or X75 from Dumfries Buccleuch Street to Newton Stewart Dashwood Square

  To Edinburgh from Newton Stewart
 
  1. Take Bus Route 500 or X75 from Newton Stewart Dashwood Square to Dumfries Buccleuch Street.

  2. Take Bus Route 100 from Dumfries Whitesands to Edinburgh Waterloo Place

Belfast
  From Belfast to Newton Stewart
 
  1. Take Stena ferry from Belfast Port to Stranraer.

  2. Disembark ferry at Stranraer and switch to Bus Route 430 from the Port Rodie stop in Stranraer  to Dash Square in Newton Stewart
    (Approx 50 minutes; click for timetable)

  To Belfast from Newton Stewart
 
  1. Take Bus Route 430 from Dash Square in Newton Stewart to Port Rodie stop in Stranraer
    (Approx 50 minutes; click for timetable)

  2. Disembark bus and take Stena ferry from Stranraer to Belfast Port.
