ANNUAL
GATHERING
OF CLAN HANNAY-2005
The annual gathering of Clan Hannay took place
at Sorbie on Saturday May 28th. About 60 members from America,
Australia, Wales, Ireland, England and Scotland, had lunch in
the village hall, following discussion groups on membership and
fund raising. The Clan Hannay Society is open to all those with
the family name of Hannay, Hannah, Hanna, and Hanney. There are
over 500 members, about half of whom are overseas , with
branches in America and Canada. Fund raising was mainly for the
purpose of conserving Sorbie Tower which is owned by the
Society. This summer the second phase of a conservation project
will take place, with a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and
partnership funding from Clan Hannay and Historic Scotland. The
Tower and grounds are open to the public as a visitor attraction
in the Machars, and conservation work will ensure the safety of
the building for the public. During Saturday afternoon, the Clan
gathered at Sorbie Tower where the Chief, Prof. David Hannay,
together with the Standard Bearer, Douglas Hannah from Stranraer,
and the Constable of the Tower, David Hannah from Fife,
accompanied by Sean and Miren Hannah, were piped to the Tower by
Pipe Major James Brown and Jamie Thompson.. In the evening there
was a dinner and ceilidh at the Crown Hotel in Newton Stewart
with Alan Paterson’s band , followed the next day by an AGM at
Kirkdale House.

"On October 17, 2004, Mary
Ellen Hanna, our daughter, became Mrs. Louis Kline. The wedding
took place in the theatre at
Lindenwood University, were they met

graduated. Both received their degrees B.A. in performing arts.
