2010 Gathering and Annual General Meeting

The 47th annual clan gathering was held on May 29th this year, with an AGM and lunch in Garlieston village hall, followed by a visit to Sorbie Tower and a dinner and ceilidh dance in the evening.

Forty four people attended the AGM, including two clan members from Tasmania, two from America, and six from Northern Ireland. After lunch about 50 people, led by the clan piper, gathered at Sorbie Tower, which had been decked with flags. The dinner and ceilidh dance in the evening were held at the Crown Hotel in Newton Stewart.

Next morning there was a meeting of the Sorbie Tower sub-committee at Kirkdale, to discuss the possibility of replacing the roof and restoring the tower.

We recently received this notice from Rebecca Wilson in British Columbia

ADVANCED NOTICE FOR A HANNAH REUNION in KELOWNA.B.C.
JULY 30-31- AUG 1-2 - 2010

We have booked the Oyama hall and recreation area. This area has a large Hall in case it rains; grounds include ball field, some camping area and is located right across the road from woods lake and beach....This is a pre-advanced notice, we would like to hear from you if you like the idea and would plan on attending. Cost has not been set as it will depend on how many plan on attending.

For those who do not know - OYAMA - is just ½ to ¾ hr from Kelowna off Highway 97, between Vernon & Kelowna. More information as soon as we hear from you, the sooner the better so we can plan our agenda. Please let us know as soon as possible if you plan on attending. We are planning a GREAT time for all. Food, games, etc. We are interested in displaying a family ancestry and would like a list of your family’s connection to the Hannahs. Please bring a couple of items that you would like to put in a grab bag/ or for some game prizes.

Stephen Hanna, our resident Sorbie Tower Guide,  would like to thank all visitors to the tower  -- members and non-members alike -- for being so generous with their donations. The amount given so far  from tours stands at around GBP1,500.00 ($3,000) over a period of two years.

Stephen Hanna, who runs the Harbour Stores, South Crescent, Garlieston (Tel, 01988 600 279, email sphcb@aol.com), has a range of clan goods available for sale and is often available to show cousins around the grounds of Sorbie Tower.  Garlieston is only a few kilometres east of Sorbie. See this map for more information on the area.
