Wednesday 24 May

Thursday 25 May
Northern Ireland Visit - Belfast
Book in as a foot passenger at the Stena Sealink Ferry Terminal before
9:30am, across the road from the North West Castle
Hotel. The ferry leaves at 10:00am. A special rate booking has been arranged and this will
include either breakfast on the way to Belfast or a main course meal on the way back to
Stranraer.
Arriving in Belfast at 11:50am, to be met by coach and Irish Clan members. The coach will proceed to a local hostelry for lunch, between
1:00 and 2:00pm. Will
Hanna from Belfast will conduct a guided tour of the capital city of Northern Ireland.
The coach will return us to the ferry terminal at 4:30pm to catch the
5:10pm boat back to Stranraer, arriving about 7:00pm.
Casual and informal social get- togethers will take place in the lounge bar of the North West Castle Hotel when
there are no planned events.
Friday 26 May
Wigtownshire Machars Bus Tour Leaving from the
North West Castle Hotel at 9:30am and guided by the Constable, a
coach will take in both west and east coasts of the
Machars. Many familiar names from the book 'The
Hannays of Sorbie' can be recognised on signposts. Passing Port
William to stop at Monreith and see the statue of Tarka the
otter from Gavin Maxwell's book 'Ring of Bright Water' and bonny
St Medan's Bay. Passing the track to St Ninian's Cave, where
this Saint is reputed to have first landed, bringing
Christianity to Scotland from Ireland, long before St Columba.
Then stopping at the lovely wee port of Isle of Whithom for
lunch at the Steam Packet Hotel by the harbour. There will be
time to walk to Candida Casa before setting off to Whithom to
look in on the world famous 'dig' site and museum then on to Wigtown,
Scotland's 'booktown'. Time to browse for book bargains and
perhaps visit the site of Wigtown Martyrs Monument before
returning to Stranraer in time for the Clan dinner at 7:30pm.
Dinner will be followed by the Gathering General Meeting in the
North West Castle Hotel. Focus Group leaders will report back to
the meeting on their specific topics. Items for discussion at
the October Annual General Meeting and nominations for Clan
Council can be put forward.
Saturday 27 May
Clan Gathering - Sorbie Tower

Meet at Sorbie Village Hall,
opposite the Pheasant Inn, Sorbie for a buffet lunch at
12:30pm, before proceeding to Sorbie Tower for the Annual
Gathering of our Clan, between 2:00 and 4:30pm. A wide range
of Clan goods will be on sale during the afternoon. Tea,
coffee and fruit juice will be available.
Leave between 4:30 and 5:00pm for Stranraer to prepare
for the Ceilidh Dance and supper in Stranraer Rugby Club at
7:30pm. |
During the evening kinsfolk will be invited and
encouraged to participate in the entertainment and dancing. An
auction of some Clan articles will, take place during the
interval to raise funds for the Sorbie Tower Project, including
a red covered, hardback copy of 'The Hannays of Sorbie'. Goods
for auction can be donated to the Keeper of the Tartan, and
viewed during the evening, before the auction starts.
Sunday 28 May
Church Service
Sorbie Parish Church
Leave Stranraer for the last time, en-route to
Sorbie Parish Church, Kirkdale House and home. The Sorbie
Presbyterian Church of Scotland service lasts about 1 hour and
is open to all denominations. The service starts at 10:00am in
the joint church of Sorbie and Garlieston, built by the Earl of
Galloway to serve both villages. About one mile from the Tower
entrance road on the way to Garlieston. The offering collection
is taken at the entrance on the way in.

After the church service proceed
to Kirkdale House for 1:00pm. Just off the A75 main road
from Stranraer to Dumfries, pass Carsluith village and
castle, stop in for the Craft Fair. Watch out for the large
signs for Cairn Holy, on the left. |
Turn off here and follow the drive, by the
'heart' stone to Kirkdale House for buffet lunch and guided
tours of the house and gardens.
A Clan Council meeting will take place at
Kirkdale before lunch.
